Inter Milan are not in any particular hurry to complete a deal to sign teenage Sampdoria defender Giovanni Leoni.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri are working to make the transfer happen this summer, but not imminently.

Inter have been eyeing up a deal for Leoni this summer.

Despite still being just seventeen years of age, the Nerazzurri see the young Italian as capable of developing into a top-class defender at senior level over the next few years.

Therefore, Inter want to sign Leoni this summer. Then, likely loan him back tio Sampdoria.

There have already been talks between the Nerazzurri and the Blucerchiati.

And in the next few weeks, Inter should hold another meeting with executives from the Ligurian club about Leoni.

But Inter are not going to push to get the transfer over the line in the next week or two.

Rather, the Nerazzurri’s priority is still very much signing a defender for the senior squad. They want to bring in a player who can back up Alessandro Bastoni.

Then, in the coming weeks Inter will try to sign Leoni before the summer transfer window closes.

Inter Not Rushing To Complete Deal For Sampdoria Defender Giovanni Leoni

Teenage defender Leoni spent last season on loan at Sampdoria.

The 17-year-old was at the Marassi on loan from Padova.

Despite his young age, Leoni carved out a place for himself at the heart of the Ligurian side’s defense.

Sampdoria had a purchase option to sign Leoni from Padova for 1.5 million. And there was never any question that they would exercise this.

And a sale for a profit is looking very likely this summer.

Inter see Leoni as a target.

The Nerazzurri reportedly had scouts watching Leoni during a Serie B match between Sampdoria and Ternana in April.

Inter are not the only team keen on Leoni though. Juventus and Torino are reportedly also keen from within Serie A.

And then the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco have reportedly shown an interest in bringing the teenage defender to the Premier League and Ligue 1 respectively.

Napoli have also shown a strong interest in signing the teenage defender.
