Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta has reiterated denials of negotiations for Albert Gudmundsson, and explained the collapse of a move for Juan Cabal.
The Nerazzurri President spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. He also expressed confidence that wingback Denzel Dumfries will sign a new deal.
Yesterday, Inter President Marotta firmly denied the transfer rumours linking Inter with a move for Genoa forward Gudmundsson.
This has not exactly caused the links to disappear.
Inter have reportedly had an interest in signing Gudmundsson since the spring.
That does not mean that a deal for the Icelandic international would be easy. Far from it.
Genoa will certainly expect a big fee for a player who scored fourteen goals and assisted seven last season.
However, rumours have continued to circulate that Inter are trying to make a deal happen.
Not according to Nerazzurri President Marotta, however.
Marotta Denies Inter Links To Gudmundsson, Explains Why Cabal Went To Juventus
Asked if there are talks to bring Gudmundsson to Inter, Marotta replied bluntly “No.”
“Honestly, we’ve never been in negotiations for him,” the Nerazzurri President continued. “Because at the moment our attacking options give us a guarantee, and we have sufficient numbers.”
“At the moment we’re keeping things the way we are,” Marotta said.
And then the Inter President also addressed the situation of Colombian defender Juan Cabal.
Cabal joined Juventus last week. He only did so, however, after he had appeared to be on the verge of a transfer to Inter – with the Bianconeri nipping in at the eleventh hour.
“We didn’t continue our interest in signing him due to internal evaluations,” claimed Marotta.
“We preferred to pull out of the race.”
Marotta declared that “We already have a highly competitive squad.”
“We can’t forget that keeping together 90% of the squad and adding three top players like Zielinski, Taremi, and Martinez represents a guarantee that we can fight for our objectives next season.”
Lastly, Marotta also addressed the question of whether wingback Denzel Dumfries will extend his contract with Inter. “I hope so, and I think he will,” the Nerazzurri President responded simply.
