Beppe Bergomi believes that Inter Milan’s squad will be ” evenstronger than last season” with Piotr Zielinski and Mehdi Taremi.

The legendary former Inter captain gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s upcoming season in yesterday’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter’s priority this summer was clearly to avoid losing players rather than to be ambitious in terms of signings.

The Nerazzurri look to have been successful on that front.

It is still not 100% certain that Denzel Dumfries will stay. But it does appear more and more likely.

And in terms of the rest of the squad, Inter will keep the spine of the team that won last season’s Serie A title in dominant fashion intact – barring any big surprises.

That does not, however, mean that Inter have not made an effort to strengthen as well.

As they often have, Inter have turned to the free transfer market in order to do so.

The Nerazzurri have been working on a couple different deals.

One was for striker Taremi, who arrives at the end of his contract with Porto. Midfielder Zielinski, meanwhile, waited for his deal with Napoli to expire and then joined.

Both of these players bring plenty of experience, from winning league titles to playing in the Champions League.

Bergomi: “Inter Squad Stronger Than Last Season With Zielinski & Taremi”

Bergomi anticipates that “With the additions of Zielinski and Taremi, we can say that this Intee squad is even better than last season.”

“Particularly considering that it’s been kept together as a whole, without any sacrifices.”

“The two players who’ve arrived on free transfers are both great players,” Bergomi writes.

“I’m also a fan of Josep Martinez. And as an undertudy to Sommer, he can grow without the pressure being on him right away.”

And of Zielinski, Bergomi writes that “He’s the ideal player to allow Mkhitaryan to have a rest.”

He argues that “If we really want to find a flaw with this Inter, it would be that the midfield lacks a few centimetres in terms of height.”

“But the quality that the Nerazzurri can boast with the reinforcements they’ve signed is impressive. It’s unmatched in Serie A.”
