Defender Georgis Vagiannidis is headed to Botafogo from Panathanaikos, with Inter Milan set to receive a sell-on fee from the deal.

This according to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri will receive around 400,000 out of the 1 million fee that the Brazilian club pay to the 22-year-old’s club.

Young Greek right-back Vagiannidis spent a total of one year as an Inter player.

The defender joined the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2021. He joined from Greek Super League side Panathanaikos.

The player himself stated that the likes of Manchester City and Monaco had also chased him. But he decided upon a move to Inter instead.

Vagiannidis spent the 2020-21 season on loan with Sint-Truiden in Belgium. However, it was not a successful loan spell for the Greek.

Vagiannidis made just one appearance for Sint-Truiden across the entire 2020-21 campaign. This came in a cup match.

Therefore, it was little surprise when Inter allowed the Greek to rejoin Panathanaikos.

Just twelve months after signing for the Nerazzurri on a free transfer, Vagiannidis made the return to his boyhood club on a free transfer.

Vagiannidis On The Verge Of Botafogo Move – Inter To Receive A Sell-On Fee

Inter may not have sold Vagiannidis back to Panathanaikos for a fee.

However, the deal did include an agreement that the Nerazzurri would receive a percentage of resale on any future transfer if the Athens team were to sell the defender in the future.

The total resale percentage that Inter are entitled to for Vagiannidis is 40%.

And now, Vagiannidis is on the verge of leaving Panathanaikos.

It is a move to Brazil for the Greek. Botafogo have stepped forward with interest, and they are close to sealing the deal.

Initial reports from Greece had reported that the fee would be significantly higher.

There had even been reports that Botafogo would be paying a fee of around 6.5 million to sign Vagiannidis.

However, the actual fee will be around 1 million.

Much of this has to do with the fact that Vagiannidis’s contract with Panathanaikos runs out at the end of next June. Therefore, Botafogo have used this fact as leverage.

Accordingly, Inter should receive a sell-on fee of around 400,000 for Vagiannidis.
