Marseille are not giving up on trying to sign forward Valentin Carboni, but are struggling to meet Inter Milan’s valuation.

This according to French outlet L’Equipe, via FCInterNews. They anticipate the Ligue 1 club could look to work out a “flexible” loan formula with Inter given the Nerazzurri’s 30 million asking price.

This summer, Marseille have been perhaps the club with the strongest interest in Carboni.

The Ligue 1 team have been in talks with Inter for several weeks.

Carboni’s future has always been one of the major question marks at Inter this summer transfer window. The 19-year-old could either leave on a permanent basis, or on another loan.

And since former Brighton and Hove Albion and Sassuolo coach De Zerbi’s arrival, Marseille have earmarked a deal for Carboni as one of their priorities for the summer.

In the meantime, however, Marseille have completed a deal to sign English forward Greenwood.

The French club have confirmed the arrival of the controversial Englishman in a deal worth more than 30 million.

Naturally, that is a big outlay for Marseille.

And this raises the question of how much more the Ligue 1 side will be able to invest this summer.

Marseille Still Keen On Valentin Carboni – But Inter Asking Price A Stumbling Block

Inter are still holding out for a fee of around 30 million to sell Carboni.

Therefore, there is still a big gap between what Marseille would be ready to invest in another big transfer after Greenwood and the kind of offer that would convince the Nerazzurri.

Moreover, thus far Inter have shown little interest in loaning Carboni out with a purchase option.

If the Nerazzurri were to send the Argentine to Marseille they would want it to be a permanent deal.

Or, at the very least, a loan containing a purchase obligation.

Nevertheless, L’Equipe report, Marseille haven’t given up.

The French team are still hoping that over the next few weeks they can strike an agreement with Inter.

This could be on the basis of an initial loan containing a conditional purchase obligation, or something similar.
