Nantes defender Nathan Zeze is at the top of Inter Milan’s shortlist of targets at the back.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that there are also four other names remaining on the Nerazzurri’s list.

Inter have recently shown an interest in 19-defender Zeze.

The France Under-18 international would fit the profile that the Nerazzurri are seeking in defense on a number of levels.

Firstly, Zeze is a left-footed defender. Inter’s feeling is that he would be capable of playing on the left of their back three.

That would give the squad a new backup option to Alessandro Bastoni. In turn, Carlos Augusto would be free to play on the left flank while Tajon Buchanan is absent.

Moreover, Zeze is young.

Not having turned twenty yet, the Frenchman would certainly meet Inter owners Oaktree Capital’s criteria for bringing in a defender who is younger and has room to grow.

According to the Corriere, as things stand Zeze is Inter’s top target in defense.

Signing the Frenchman will require an investment. But Oaktree would green light this if it is within the right range financially speaking.

Moreover, Inter could have a card to play in the form of goalkeeper Filip Stankovic.

Nantes want to sign Stankovic. Therefore, if the Serb were to go to Nantes as part of a deal for Zeze, it could make negotiations smoother and lower the cash fee that Inter have to pay.

But Zeze isn’t the only target Inter have in mind defensively.

Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, and Genoa’s Johan Vazquez are also on their radar.

Meanwhile, if Inter complete a deal for 17-year-old Giovanni Leoni, he could represent a very young option.

Lastly, if the Nerazzurri opt for a low-cost signing of an experienced veteran, there would always be the possibility of Ricardo Rodirguez on a free transfer.
