There is no chance that forward Joaquin Correa could end up staying at Inter Milan this summer.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that a termination of Correa’s contract with severance pay would even be possible.
Correa is back at Inter after a profoundly underwhelming loan spell at Marseille last season.
The Argentine had failed to score or assist a goal for the French club over the entire campaign.
However, this summer preseason has presented a bit of an opportunity for Correa.
All of Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, and Marko Arnautovic are late arrivals after their extended vacations following the Copa America and Euros.
As such, Correa has been able to start in each of Inter’s first two friendly matches of the preseason period.
The 29-year-old scored Inter’s first goal against Lugano. But against Pergolettese, it was a poor display.
If Correa had had the chance to earn a surprise place for himself in Inter’s squad with his preseason displays, he has not taken it.
No Chance Joaquin Correa Stays At Inter Milan – Severance Pay Possible
So the question, naturally, is where Correa goes next.
It is not as though there has been zero interest in the Argentine’s signature.
River Plate are keen on bringing the 29-year-old back to his home country Argentina.
There has been interest from Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. As there has been from the Saudi Pro League.
Then, two of Correa’s former clubs have sounded out a surprise return in the form of Lazio and Sevilla.
And recent rumours have also linked the out-of-favour Inter forward with Monza and Real Betis.
Then, there are also AEK Athens pushing to sign Correa this summer.
But thus far, none of these ideas have become very concrete.
Therefore, as the end of the summer transfer window draws closer over the next few weeks, Inter may consider simply offloading Correa in the quickest manner possible.
A couple of summers ago, Inter were in a similar situation with Alexis Sanchez.
The Nerazzurri terminated the Chilean’s contract by mutual consent. They paid him a severance payment in order to do so.
And according to the Corriere, it cannot be ruled out that Inter may decide to do the same thing with Correa this summer.
