Arrigo Sacchi believes there is “still distance” between AC Milan and Inter Milan in Serie A, but that the Rossoneri “have a chance.”

The former Rossoneri coach gave his thoughts to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

Last season, Milan finished second in the Serie A table behind their city rivals Inter.

However, in truth there was never really a title race.

There had been a close race up until the end of January. But that had been between Inter and Juventus.

When the Bianconeri’s form plummeted dramatically, Milan were able to move ahead of them in the table.

But by that time, Inter had already pulled well ahead of all the other teams in the table.

At the end of the season, the Nerazzurri’s lead in the table stretched to nearly twenty points.

And to add insult to injury, Inter also clinched the title in the derby against Milan. That was the first time that either the Nerazzurri or the Rossoneri had ever done so.

Sacchi: “Still Distance Between AC Milan & Inter Milan – But Milan Have A Chance”

Milan have taken steps to strengthen during the summer transfer window.

For one thing, the Rossoneri have hired a new coach, in the form of Paulo Fonseca.

The former Roma, Lille, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Porto boss replaces Stefano Pioli at the helm.

Former Milan coach Sacchi said that “I think there’s still distance between Inter and Milan.”

“In the sense that the Nerazzurri, at the moment, look to be better-equipped.”

“But Milan, partly due to the signings they’re making, have the chance to catch up to their rivals,” he argued.

Sacchi made clear, “However, just bringing in new players won’t be enough.”

“That would be too simple.”

“It’s a matter of finding a style of play that suits the team. They need a style, and idea.”
