Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi still considers Ricardo Rodriguez as his favorite profile to complete the backline ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The Nerazzurri’s defensive department will only witness minimal changes in the off-season.

Stevan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi will once again be vying for the central role in Inzaghi’s back-three. On the right side, Benjamin Pavard should maintain his starting berth, with Yann Bisseck serving as a reliable understudy.

However, Alessandro Bastoni will require a new backup on the left side. That’s because Carlos Augusto will return to his original role on the left wing following Tajon Buchanan’s long-term injury.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri management has been exploring its options on the market over the past few weeks. However, the club has yet to agree on a profile.

Most sources in the Italian press believe that the club’s owners Oaktree Capital would like to invest in a young profile, someone who doesn’t necessarily boast a major reputation and vast experience.

But according to La Repubblica via FcInterNews, Inzaghi still wishes to sign Rodriguez.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Still Keen To Sign Ricardo Rodriguez

The 31-year-old is a true Serie A veteran. He represented AC Milan between 2017 and 2020 and then Torino over the past four years.

The Switzerland international is now a free agent after seeing out his contract with the Granata last month.

Inzaghi appreciates Rodriguez for his great experience as well as his ability to play at the back or on the left wing.

Inter president Beppe Marotta also has a knack for signing experienced players on free transfers.

However, it remains to be seen if the club owners would sanction this operation or insist on signing a younger alternative.
