Striker Marko Arnautovic is currently blocking Inter Milan from making a move for Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson in the last month of the transfer window.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
One of the big remaining questions for Inter this summer transfer window concerns whether or not another attacking player will arrive.
There are a few more weeks to go in the window.
And the Nerazzurri’s strategy appears clear. They will wait and see whether they can sign a player who gives their attack more depth and versatility.
The big target remains Genoa forward Gudmundsson.
The Icelandic international scored fourteen goals and made seven assists for Genoa last season. Moreover, he is exactly the kind of profile Inter are seeking.
Gudmundsson is proficient at dribbling in tight spaces. He is also versatile enough to play anywhere from central midfield to second striker.
That is just the profile the Nerazzurri’s squad currently lacks.
As the Gazzetta notes, Inter could see a loan deal as the ideal solution to sign Gudmundsson. That is because the 26-year-old is set to face a trial for sexual assault in his native Iceland in the autumn.

Inter are not likely to make a move for Gudmundsson if former West Ham United and Bologna striker Arnautovic sticks around, however.
The Austrian has one more year on his contract. His deal runs out at the end of next June.
And Arnautovic’s wages are hardly inconsiderable.
There would be little room for Inter to manoeuvre for Gudmundsson if the 35-year-old is still in the squad.
Therefore, a lot will depend on Arnautovic’s situation over the next month.
As the Gazzetta notes, there are presently no offers for Arnautovic.
But the Austrian is now back in training. Inter will use the coming days to take stock of the veteran striker’s situation.
And if Inter do find an exit route for Arnautovic, then a move for Gudmundsson could follow closely behind.
