Striker Marko Arnautovic could change his mind and decide to leave Inter Milan in the last month of the transfer window.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They suggest that the Austrian may decide it’s time to leave in search of more playing time.

35-year-old former West Ham United and Stoke City striker Arnautovic will soon be back in training for Inter.

Arnautovic’s post-EURO 2024 vacation ended yesterday. However, he did not make an immediate return to training. This was due to some flu-like symptoms.

But Arnautovic should be back in training soon enough.

And once the Austrian is back with the squad, he may confront the new reality that awaits him.

Marko Arnautovic Could Decide To Leave Inter Milan Over Playing Time

Last season, Arnautovic had been a backup option in attack at Inter.

The Austrian more or less did what was expected of him in that regard. He carried the load when Lautaro Martinez or Marcus Thuram were injured or needed a rest.

Next season, though, Inter will have Mehdi Taremi in the squad.

Taremi is a striker who has a similar profile to Arnautovic. But perhaps unlike the Austrian, the Iranian international will be pushing to start more regularly.

If Inter are to have all of Taremi, Martinez, and Thuram regularly rotating in and out of the starting eleven, they will have less of a need for an experienced backup like Arnautovic.

And the Austrian is not a player who necessarily benefits from only playing infrequently.

Last season Arnautovic picked up a couple of muscle injuries that ruled him out for weeks at a time.

A big part of the reason for this is that, when the former Bologna veteran did get out on the pitch, it was often as a substitute without many minutes in his legs.

Playing this role meant that Arnautovic never quite found his rhythm physically. And that was a detriment to his fitness.

The 35-year-old may see the writing on the wall this summer.

Therefore, whilst Arnautovic is hardly pushing for an exit at the moment, he may accept that it is now time for him to move on to join a team where he will play week in and week out.
