Genoa and Iceland forward Albert Gudmundsson remains the top target in attack for Inter Milan.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that a move for the 26-year-old would hinge on resolving two key issues.

Inter’s interest in Gudmundsson stretches back months at this point.

There is no question that the Nerazzurri see the Genoa forward as an ideal signing to complete their attack.

It is not only a matter of Gudmundsson’s impressive output – he scored fourteen goals and assisted a further seven last season.

Inter also believe that the Icelandic international would give the attack a profile it does not already have. He is a proficient dribbler in tight spaces, something none of the other strikers are.

Moreover, Gudmundsson is versatile enough to play anywhere from central midfield to second striker. Therefore, he could give Inter new tactical solutions.

There have been various other transfer links. Free transfer options like Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial have been touted.

But in reality, Inter have been lukewarm at best on such prospects. It is Gudmundsson they want to sign.

Two Key Issues To Be Resolved For Albert Gudmundsson To Join Inter Milan

Inter will, however, have to wait and see if two major issues will be resolved if they are to sign Gudmundsson.

The first concerns an ongoing legal case for sexual assault in the 26-year-old’s native Iceland.

That case has been ongoing for months. An appeal by Gudmundsson’s accuser from earlier this year means that there will be a trial in the autumn.

Given that Gudmundsson faces the prospect of prison time, this could obviously pose an enormous problem for any club signing the Icelander.

Therefore, Inter are following developments in the case. Clearly, this will have a big influence in their decision on whether or not to sign Gudmundsson.

Then there is the matter of sales.

One way or another, Gudmundsson won’t come cheap. Even if Inter manage to find an agreement on an initial loan deal or something similar, they would have to make a financial commitment.

Therefore, Inter cannot move for the former AZ Alkmaar forward without first making sales.

Joaquin Correa certainly would have to be out the door. Preferably for a fee.

And it now looks fairly clear that Inter would have to sell Marko Arnautovic if they’re to move for Gudmundsson.

Therefore, Inter will wait and see what things look like on the sales front over the next few weeks. This will play a decisive role in whether or not they end up signing Gudmundsson.
