Midfielder Stefano Sensi is close to joining Monza on a free transfer after the end of his contract with Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

This summer, Sensi has left Inter.

The 28-year-old departs the Nerazzurri after five seasons at the club.

Sensi joined Inter in the summer of 2019 from Sassuolo. He arrived as part of a box office transfer window that also saw players like Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku come in.

Sensi was a midfield reinforcement for coach Antonio Conte.

The Italian international initially showed very positive signs in his first season at Inter. He looked ready to establish an important role under Conte.

However, after a bright first few matches, Sensi started to experience injury and fitness problems.

These would unfortunately become the major theme of Sensi’s time at Inter.

In five years under contract with the Nerazzurri, Sensi made a grand total of just 57 appearances for the club.

Stefano Sensi Close To Monza Free Transfer After Inter Deal Ends

Sensi never really gained the trust of Inter coach Simone Inzaghi after the coach took over in the summer of 2021.

Therefore, over the second half of the 2021-22 season Sensi was at Sampdoria on loan in search of playing time.

In the summer of 2022, Monza signed Sensi on loan. He spent the 2022-23 campaign with the Brianzoli, where he actually featured regularly despite a couple of injuries.

Last summer Sensi did not leave Inter. Rather, he remained a part of the Nerazzurri’s squad, although he only played a bit part role last season.

In the January transfer window Leicester City had tried to sign Sensi.

However, that deal fell apart at the last minute, and the 28-year-old spent the remainder of the campaign as an Inter player.

And then this summer, Sensi’s five-year contract with Inter expired. As of the end of last month he has been a free agent.

Newly-promoted Como had shown an interest in Sensi’s signature.

However, it is instead Monza who will bring the Italian international back.

The Lombard team had had a purchase option at the end of Sensi’s loan in 2023. However, they declined to sign him on a permanent basis.

This summer, though, Monza will bring Sensi back as a midfield reinforcement for new coach Alessandro Nesta.

Tuttosport report that Sensi will sign a season-long contract with the Brianzoli, which will contain the option of an additional season.
