ThereGoalkeeper Josep Martinez is already convincing Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi that he can be the long-term keeper in preseason.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter signed 26-year-old Spanish international Martinez this summer.

The former RB Leipzig and Las Palmas keeper is the player who the Nerazzurri decided to make their designated long-term plan in goal.

Inter have a clear pathway in mind for Martinez.

Next season, the Spaniard will start as the backup option to Yann Sommer. The former Bayern Munich keeper is still very much the first-choice.

This will mean that there is not too much pressure on Martinez to show consistent performances right away.

But over the course of the campaign, the 26-year-old will have the chance to find his feet, acting as a high-quality deputy for Sommer and also getting opportunities for himself in the starting eleven.

Then, in the years to come, Inter are hoping that Martinez can emerged as a reliable first-choice starter between the posts.

Josep Martinez Already Convincing Inzaghi In Inter Preseason

Martinez has been part of Inter’s preseason training camp from the start.

This has given the Spaniard the chance to work closely with Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi.

Moreover, Martinez has also started in all three of Inter’s preseason friendlies so far. With Sommer on holiday, he has started against Lugano, Pergolettese, and his old side Las Palmas.

And according to the Corriere, Inter coach Inzaghi has been very enthusiastic about what he’s seen from Martinez.

The Nerazzurri coach was reportedly instrumental in Inter’s decision to sign Martinez.

Inzaghi preferred the Spaniard over Brazilian international Bento.

And the Corriere report that the Inter coach has few regrets after working with Martinez for a couple weeks.

Therefore, Inzaghi backs the Spaniard as the succession plan in goal.
