Red Bull Salzbueg’s Luka Sucic and Bologna’s Giovanni Fabbian are two possible long-term replacements for Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

35-year-old former Arsenal, Manchester United, and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mkhitaryan remains a key player for Inter.

The Armenian has been virtually the first name on the teamsheet for the Nerazzurri over the past two seasons. He joined on a free transfer from Roma in the summer of 2022.

Mkhitaryan has been the player who balances Inter’s midfield trio.

Despite expectations that the veteran midfielder would be more of a backup option when he arrived, he has been indispensable alongside Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella.

That has been the case despite the fact that Mkhitaryan is now well into his thirties.

Even at his age, the ex-Arsenal man is showing few signs of slowing down.

But the fact remains that that can’t stay the case forever. Inter know that they must have a succession plan in place.

Sucic & Fabbian Possible Mkhitaryan Successors At Inter

This summer Inter have brought in 30-year-old Polish international Piotr ZIelinski on a free transfer from Napoli.

Zielinski will certainly constitute a big midfield reinforcement.

The Pole will compete with Mkhitaryan for the starting spot next season. And, a few years younger than the Armenian, he can also become a regular starter for a few more years.

But Inter will have to replace Mkhitaryan and sign a young player who can compete with Zielinski for a starting spot for years to come.

And according to Tuttosport, there are two major possibilities.

One would be Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Luka Sucic.

The Croat is available on a free transfer next summer should he not extend his contract with Salzburg. He’ll be 22 years old then.

Then, Inter could also aim to bring midfielder Giovanni Fabbian back from Bologna.

The Nerazzurri have a buyback option on Fabbian, and can sign him for 12 million next summer.
