Tactical reasons are at the heart of attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni joining Marseille on loan from Inter Milan this summer.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the opportunity to play in a number ten role under Roberto De Zerbi was the key factor in the Argentine’s decision.

Now it is only a matter of time. Carboni will be joining Marseille this summer.

The Nerazzurri have found a complete agreement with the Ligue 1 club on the terms of a deal.

The move will not be a permanent transfer right away. Rather, Carboni will be joining Marseille on an initial paid loan deal.

Then, the French side will have a purchase option to sign Carboni on a permanent basis.

Reports indicate that Marseille will pay Inter a 1 million loan fee this summer. Then, the purchase option will be right around 40 million.

Meanwhile, Inter will have a buyback option. They can sign Carboni right back in the event that Marseille decide to exercise their purchase option.

Inter President Beppe Marotta has confirmed that the Nerazzurri will still have control over Carboni’s future per the terms of the deal with Marseille.

Tactical Reasons Key In Valentin Carboni Joining Marseille From Inter

Ultimately, Carboni is leaving Inter this summer because he doesn’t fit into the Nerazzurri’s team under coach Simone Inzaghi.

The 19-year-old is best-suited to either playing in attacking midfield or as an attacking winger.

Neither are positions that really exist in Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation.

However, new Marseille coach De Zerbi has made clear to Carboni that he will deploy the teenage Argentine as an attacking player. He wants to build the club’s attack around the 19-year-old.

Therefore, Carboni sees Marseille as the right environment in which to show his best qualities.

That has been the key factor in the decision on the player’s side.
