Yann Bisseck is becoming a key player for Inter Milan, and could become a defensive “wild card” for the Nerazzurri in lieu of a new signing.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

23-year-old German youth team international Bisseck has now been an Inter player for twelve months.

Bisseck joined the Nerazzurri from Aarhus last summer.

When the German arrived at Inter, he was still more or less an unknown quantity.

Bisseck had certainly impressed with his performances in the Danish top flight. And he had also risen to the level of captaining Germany’s Under-21 team.

However, the switch to Inter represented a massive step up for Bisseck.

Therefore, it was little surprise to see the German initially play little role for the Nerazzurri.

But starting in late autumn, Bisseck started to get his opportunities. And he grabbed them with both hands.

Bisseck had his role to play over the second half of the season as Inter ran away with the Serie A title.

Yann Bisseck Increasingly Key For Inter – Possible “Wild Card” In Defense?

As the Gazzetta notes, Bisseck’s performances in preseason this summer have only further confirmed his growth in status at Inter.

The German has been part of the Nerazzurri’s training camp from the start. He’s started all three preseason friendlies thus far.

And Bisseck’s displays have shown a defender who is already mature.

The 23-year-old has been confident in his positioning and tackles, showing excellent judgment and timing.

And with the ball at his feet, Bisseck has managed to impact matches with his forward runs particularly.

Therefore, there is no doubt that Bisseck will play an important role as the main backup to Benjamin Pavard next season.

But that may not be all.

The Gazzetta suggest that Bisseck could also be a defensive “wild card.”

By all accounts Inter are looking for a defensive signing. Specifically they want a player for the left side of the back three.

Bisseck may be right-footed. But the left of a back three is where he primarily played at Aarhus.

Therefore it can’t be ruled that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will test the German out in that role this summer.

The coach could decide to put his faith in Bisseck rather than having Inter make a new signing at the back.
