There is a new twist in the Albert Gudmundsson saga, as Fiorentina have reportedly reignited their interest in the Inter Milan transfer target.

The 27-year-old was arguably the biggest revelation of the previous Serie A campaign. The Viola immediately took notice and even tried to sign him in January, but their offer fell short of Genoa’s valuation.

This summer, Inter have emerged as the Icelandic star’s most vigorous suitor.

The Italian champions haven’t been able to launch an onslaught for the player, as they would first have to offload some of their deadwood to make way for the Grifone talisman.

Hence, this delay could allow Fiorentina to re-enter the race and perhaps even reach the finish line.

As TuttoMercatoWeb explains, the Tuscans’ transfer market has heated up in the last few days. This is mainly due to the growing interest in Nicolas Gonzalez’s services.

The 26-year-old has been a fan favorite in Florence since his arrival in the city in the summer of 2021. However, he is currently being linked with a move either to Atalanta or Juventus.

Fiorentina To Pursue Inter Milan Target Albert Gudmundsson If They Sell Nico Gonzalez

So if Fiorentina ends up cashing in on the Argentine, they will search the market for a direct replacement

This could well lead them back to Gudmundsson. With fresh funds coming from Gonzalez’s sale, the Viola would be able to forge an important bid.

But as the source tells it, Genoa could even accept to lower the demands.

The Ligurians have previously failed to entertain any offer below the 30-million euros threshold.

However, the report believes Genoa could end up accepting an initial loan offer from Fiorentina with an obligation worth 25 million euros.

The Rossoblu could be willing to grant the Florentines a discount in exchange for a sell-on fee clause.

Therefore, Inter might have to act swiftly and decisively if they still intend to land the Iceland international.
