Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is hoping to convince the club’s owners Oaktree Capital of signing Ricardo Rodriguez.

The Nerazzurri are currently searching the market for a new left-footed defender who can act as an understudy for Alessandro Bastoni.

However, there appear to be several opinions inside the club’s walls regarding the profile to pursue.

For instance, Oaktree believe that poaching young talents is the way to go.

Thus, the new owners have instructed the management to find a promising defender whose value would improve over time. In other words, they would like to replicate the Yann Bisseck coup.

But on the other hand, Inzaghi prefers a more experienced profile.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, Rodriguez remains on top of the coach’s wishlist.

The 31-year-old is a former AC Milan left-back who gradually morphed into a left centre-back during his time at Torino.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Hopes To Convince Oaktree Of Signing Ricardo Rodriguez

The Switzerland international has recently ended his spell with the Granata, so he’s now available as a free agent.

But while Beppe Marotta and co used to pounce on this sort of opportunity in the past, the Oaktree guidelines have been preventing them from signing Rodriguez thus far.

Nevertheless, Inzaghi is hoping that the new owners would consider making an exception for the Swiss defender and sanction his arrival.

As the source explains, Rodriguez could be willing to accept a minimum salary and a one-year contract. These factors could sway Oaktree into greenlighting the operation and granting Inzaghi his desired defender.

In Inter’s 3-5-2 system, the former Wolfsburg man would be able to cover on the left side of the three-man defense, and also as a left wingback.
