Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi could miss the Serie A season opener against Genoa, leaving Simone Inzagh with a big dilemma upfront.

The 32-year-old joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer last month after seeing out his contract with Porto.

The Iranian immediately cemented himself as the standout performer in the club’s pre-season preparations. He has been scoring on every occasion in the friendly tests.

And with Lautaro Martinez returning late from his summer vacation, almost all accounts were tipping Taremi to start against the Grifone on August 17th.

However, the new signing suffered a muscular injury that will rule him out of action for a few weeks.

As the club’s official note explained, Taremi will undergo further tests next week to shed more light on the situation.

But in the meantime, many fear that the experienced attacker could miss the Serie A opener.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the club isn’t particularly worried about the nature of the injury, but rather its inconvenient timing. After all, Inzaghi was planning to start Taremi alongside Marcus Thuram in attack.

The Frenchman has now returned from his vacation, so he should be able to regain his fitness for the Genoa clash.

Inter Milan Have Three Possible Solutions Vs Genoa In Case Mehdi Taremi Fails To Recover In Time

But with Taremi possibly missing the occasion, this leaves Thuram without a clear partner in attack.

So as the source explains, Inter have three options on the table to solve this headache.

The first would be accelerating the return of Lautaro. The club captain was expected at Appiano Gentile next week, so we shall see if he’ll make a swifter comeback.

The second option would be trusting Marko Arnautovic. The 35-year-old has now become a fourth-choice striker, but is apparently keen to remain at Appiano Gentile.

Finally, the last solution is deploying Henrikh Mkhitaryan in his old role as an attacking midfielder. This would require a slight tweak to the formation from 3-5-2 to 3-5-1-1.
