With Mehdi Taremi suffering an injury, Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has answered the club’s call as he’ll return earlier than expected for pre-season.

The 26-year-old will be the last player to return from his summer vacation. The club granted him extra weeks of rest as the Argentine national team reached the final of the Copa America.

Curiously, it was the Nerazzurri skipper who delivered the winner in extra-time which allowed the Albiceleste to retain their continental crown.

But while Inter were expecting Lautaro to return next week, it appears that the recent developments have prompted a change in the return schedule.

Yesterday, the club announced that Taremi sustaining a muscle strain. This injury will rule the 32-year-old out of action for a few weeks. It also leaves his availability for the season opener in doubt.

This is particular blow for Simone Inzaghi who was planning to count on the Iranian in the against Genoa.

But according to Sky Sport Italia journalist Matteo Barzaghi, the club captain is ready to save the day.

The reporter claims that Martinez has decided to show his true metal by cutting his holiday short and tend to his club’s needs.
