The Nerazzurri have been monitoring the Genoa star for several months. Many sources considered them the favorites to land the 27-year-old who was one of the main revelations of the previous Serie A campaign.
Nevertheless, the Italian champions haven’t been able to launch an onslaught just yet. First, Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio have to trim their squad, especially their attacking department.
So in the last few days, Fiorentina managed to pounce on the delay to place themselves in pole position.
As reported yesterday, the Viola could soon sell their star winger Nicolas Gonzalez which would provide them with the necessary funds to sign Gudmundsson.

The same report claims that the Nerazzurri are aiming to regain the lead by offering Correa as an exchange pawn.
The 29-year-old is no longer part of the technical project, and the club is keen to find him a buyer.
This exchange offer is a desperate attempt from Inter to hit two birds with one stone. In other words, the Italian champions would sign their desired transfer target and simultaneously rid themselves of an unwanted attacker.
