A report in the Italian press reveals the details behind the San Siro renovation project that WeBuild presented to Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Even though each club embarked on its own plans to build a separate stadium on the outskirts of Milano, the city mayor Giuseppe Sala is still keen to keep the two clubs at the Giuseppe Meazza.
Therefore, he authorized WeBuild to come up with a plan to renovate the stadium.
According to La Repubblica via FcInter1908, the building company have presented the two clubs with a detailed project explained in 280 pages.
WeBuild are hoping to begin the construction phase in January 2025. This would allow them to finish the project by January 2029. Nevertheless, the newspaper feels that the company is too optimistic in this regard.
As the source explains, the works will not interrupt the two clubs’ playing schedules. It will only cause the closure of some sections of the stadium, allowing Inter and Milan to play their home matches at San Siro in front of their home crowds, albeit with a reduced capacity.
WeBuild Hoping To Finish San Siro Renovation Works By January 2029
Nevertheless, WeBuild are planning intensive work over the summers. Therefore, this could prevent the stadium from hosting summer concerts and other social events as per custom.
The report also reveals that the cost of the operation should reach around 350 million euros.
In the end, WeBuild is aiming to present a stadium with a total seating capacity of 70,500 seats. This would be lower than the current capacity of 75,800.
Nevertheless, the project intends to raise the number of premium seats, in addition to adding sky boxes.
Mayor Sala is expecting Inter and Milan to hand their definitive answers in two to three months. The two clubs will decide whether or not they wish to embark on this project.
