Inter Milan are still pushing to sign Sampdoria defender Giovanni Leoni ahead of Juventus despite rumoured recent denials.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri could send Alessandro Fontanarosa or Filip Stankovic to Sampdoria as part of a deal.

Inter have been eyeing up a deal for Leoni this summer.

Despite still being just seventeen years of age, the Nerazzurri see the young Italian as capable of developing into a top-class defender at senior level over the next few years.

Therefore, Inter want to sign Leoni this summer. Then, likely loan him back to Sampdoria.

There have already been talks between the Nerazzurri and the Blucerchiati, according to reports.

Inter are not the only club to show an interest, though. Juventus are the club really pushing to sign Leoni ahead of the Nerazzurri, reports the Corriere.

Napoli and Torino are reportedly also keen from within Serie A.

And then the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco have reportedly shown an interest in bringing the teenage defender to the Premier League and Ligue 1 respectively.

Yesterday, rumoured denials emerged from Leoni’s agent that an Inter move was on the cards.

However, the Corriere report that there is little to these.

In reality, the newspaper anticipate, Inter are still working hard to try and complete a deal for the 17-year-old.

The talks are ongoing with Sampdoria.

And Inter’s hope is that a player-plus-cash offer would be the right way of going about convincing the Blucerchiati.

Goalkeeper Filip Stankovic spent last season on loan with Sampdoria.

Inter could send the Serbian goalkeeper back to the Marassi as part of a deal for Leoni.

Alternatively, the Nerazzurri could offers a young defender of their own as part of a deal for the teenager. Alessandro Fontanarosa would be a possible makeweight.
