Wingback Denzel Dumfries is on the verge of extending his contract with Inter Milan after a meeting with the club today.

This according to Italian outlet Gazzetta.it. The Gazzetta report that the Dutchman’s agent held talks with Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio at the club’s headquarters earlier today.

One of the big priorities for Inter during the summer transfer window has been to agree a new contract with Dumfries.

As of now, the 28-year-old is on the same deal that he signed when he joined from PSV in the summer of 2021.

That was a four-year contract, meaning that Dumfries’s deal expires at the end of next June.

Inter are happy with Dumfries’s performance. By all accounts Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi wants to keep the Dutchman in the squad next season.

But obviously, the contract situation would pose a problem in that respect.

Reports have indicated that Inter would look to sell Dumfries this summer if he did not sign a new deal. They would rather cash in now than risk losing him on a free transfer as they did Milan Skriniar.

Denzel Dumfries On The Verge Of Inter Contract Extension After Meeting Today

The talks with Dumfries’s representatives have been going on for several months.

And initially there had been doubt over whether Inter would be able to come to an agreement with the Dutchman and his representatives.

This is because Inter have only been offering a new deal worth 4 million net per seasons. That is the same amount that fellow wingback Federico Dimarco earns.

Inter have made very clear that they do not feel that they can offer any more than that.

Meanwhile, earlier this year Dumfries and his representatives made demands for a contract extension worth 5 million net per season.

But the Dutchman appears to have lowered his demands to meet Inter’s offer.

Dumfries is in no hurry to leave Inter. Therefore, his priority is to stay and find an agreement with the club on a new deal.

To that end, Dumfries’s agent met with Inter Sporting Director Ausilio today, reports the Gazzetta.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the details of a new contract for the 28-year-old. They also talked about the future of the Inter project and Dumfries’s place in the squad.

Now it is really only a matter of time before Dumfries puts pen to paper.

Everyone is on the same page and the wingback is ready to sign a new deal.
