Former Fiorentina midfielder Antonio Di Gennaro feels Inter Milan are the favourites for the Serie A title, and Juventus their main rivals.

Di Gennaro spoke to TMW Radio, via FCInterNews. He gave his thoughts on the upcoming Serie A title race, praising Inter’s squad-building in particular.

Last season, Inter did not just win the Serie A title. They did so in quite dominant fashion.

In the end, the Nerazzurri finished the campaign nearly twenty points clear of their closest rivals in the table, city rivals AC Milan.

Therefore, it is hard for Inter to escape the tag of favourites heading into next season.

Particularly given that the Nerazzurri have kept together the spine of the team from last season.

Of course, there have been a few players to leave, as is always the case. But none of them were really key starters from last campaign’s title conquest.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has also stayed in post as well. The continuity with the 48-year-old is arguably more important than any one player staying.

Di Gennaro: “Inter Completed An Already Strong Squad, Juventus Main Rivals”

Of course, the other big teams in Serie A have recognized the amount of work that they have to do this summer.

All of Juventus, AC Milan, and Napoli have changed coaches.

And furthermore, that trio are all in the midst of fairly ambitious summer signing campaigns.

But Inter have also made signings.

Both Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski have arrived on free transfers. And Josep Martinez comes in as both a backup to Yann Sommer in goal for next season, and a long-term successor to the Swiss.

Inter’s objective this summer seems to have been twofold. First, keep last season’s team together. And second, add a bit more strength in depth.

“Inter have further strengthened with Zielinski and Taremi,” argued former midfielder Di Gennaro.

“They’ve completed an already strong squad that will have a tough road ahead,” he said.

“I’m a fan of what I’ve seen from Milan, Juve, and Napoli. Conte has really gotten into the heads of the player.”

“If Juve make a few more signings they can be the main rivals,” predicted Di Gennaro. “If they sign Nico Gonzalez it means they’re aiming for the top.”
