Despite rumours regarding Denzel Dumfries’ move to Man Utd, Gianluca Di Marzio insists the player’s close to signing a contract extension at Inter Milan.

According to the Sky Sports journalist, as reported by FCInterNews, speculation coming from England is pure fiction.

Instead, the 28-year-old is on the verge of extending his deal at Giuseppe Meazza.

Dumfries held a crunch meeting with the Inter powerbrokers over the weekend.

After reaching the EURO 2024 semi-finals, he returned to Italy a few days ago to discuss his future.

Inter’s intention has always been crystal clear. Simone Inzaghi sees the attacking-minded right-back as an invaluable first-team asset.

Therefore, the defending Serie A champions have offered Dumfries a €4 million net per season salary.

Such a lucrative wages would put the ex-PSV Eindhoven defender on par with Italian wingback Federico Dimarco.

As such, Dumfries didn’t have to think twice. He immediately agreed to the proposed terms.

However, The Athletic’s report on Tuesday evening poured cold water on the Inter faithful.

The English media outlet’s speculative article cast doubt on Dumfries’ future in Serie A.

By contrast, the denials came quickly.

Luckily for the Nerazzurri fanbase, the player is close to renewing his contract.

Italian Media Find Speculation Linking Inter Star Denzel Dumfries with Man Utd Pure Fantasy

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag harbours genuine admiration for Dumfries.

Yet, player’s heart remains set on an Inter stay.

The Dutchman has become a first-team stalwart at Meazza since swapping his homeland for Italy in 2021.

He has won four major trophies with Simone Inzaghi’s side.

In fact, last season, he lifted his first Scudetto.

Considering his significance to Inzaghi’s set-up, Inter are keen to tie him down to a new contract.

And the feeling is seemingly mutual.

As it stands, Dumfries will pledge his future to Inter in the coming days.
