Legendary former Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti says that he “dreams” of a Champions League final rematch against Man City.

Moratti spoke to Italian outlet Controcalcio.com. He also compared current Inter coach Simone Inzaghi to Jose Mourinho, and gave his verdict on some summer Nerazzurri signings.

One of the biggest disappointments of the last few years for Inter came in the 2023 Champions League final.

On the one hand, even reaching that final represented a big achievement for the Nerazzurri. Few had considered them among the favourites to even make it that far.

But on the other hand, there was no doubt that it was a bitter blow to miss out on the trophy at the final hurdle.

And the fact that Inter had really gone toe-to-toe with English juggernaut Manchester City and lost by a slender 1-0 only made the disappointment worse if anything.

Of course, Inter have recovered from that disappointment.

Last season, the Nerazzurri won the Serie A title in dominant fashion.

But at the same time, the expectations are now higher than ever in Europe. And last season Inter failed to live up to them, exiting the Champions League at the round of sixteen against Atletico Madrid.

But next season Inter will go again. They’ll be among the favourites to go deep in the Champions League.

And a win over Manchester City along the way would certainly feel satisfying for the Nerazzurri.

Ex Inter President Moratti “Dreams” Of Champions League Rematch Vs Man City

As far as his dream for this Inter, Moratti named “The Champions League.”

The former Nerazzurri President called it “The most beautiful and exciting competition that there is.”

“Winning it is beautiful, but not easy. In the league if you’re the strongest team and nothing unusual happens you win. But in Europe, anything can happen.”

“It’s never a given that the strongest team will win,” Moratti mused.

“I hope that Inter are in the Champions League final next season,” said the former Inter President.

“Maybe against City. It wouldn’t be easy, but it’s not impossible to dream.”

Meanwhile, Moratti also had words of praise for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi. “I knew he was good,” the former President said. “But not this good.”

“I hope he can win the way that Jose Mourinho did, and even more with Inter.”

Moratti compared the two coaches. “Inzaghi is different in terms of his character, more calm and unflappable.”

“But equally good on the pitch,” he said.

And of the summer transfer window that Inter have had, Moratti said that “I don’t know if we’re done signing players.”

“But with the arrivals of Zielinski and Taremi to an already strong team, we’re still the strongest team in Italy and I’m very happy and excited about that,” he added.
