Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij will undergo medical tests to reveal the extent of the knock he suffered on Wednesday night.

The Dutchman entered the pitch in the 63rd minute in the friendly encounter against Al-Ittihad, replacing Francesco Acerbi.

The Nerazzurri lost the contest by two goals to nil, but more worryingly, they could be dealt with another injury blow.

The Italian champions have already lost the likes of Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski and Marko Arnautovic to injuries in previous pre-season tests.

Therefore, the last thing that Simone Inzaghi and his technical staff need is another injury problem.

Earlier reports suggested that the defender suffered a problem in his left thigh. The 32-year-old reportedly admitted he heard something tweak, which might not be an encouraging sign.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, de Vrij will have instrumental medical tests today.

The results will reveal whether the player has indeed sustained an injury or if it’s merely the case of a muscle cramp.

Inter Milan Anxiously Awaiting Stefan De Vrij Test Results

In the meantime, the club’s technical staff and directors can only hold their breath as they anxiously await the outcome.

Inter are already lacking personnel at the back. Tajon Buchanan’s injury will force Inzaghi to move back Carlos Augusto to the left wingback slot. This leaves Alessandro Bastoni without a clear backup.

Therefore, Inter would loathe to lose the services of de Vrij for an extended period.

The Nerazzurri have been searching the market for a new left-footed defender, but have yet to find their man.

Nevertheless, if the tests confirm the Netherlands international’s injury, the management might have to accelerate their attempts on that front.

De Vrij has been plying his trade at Inter since making the free transfer from Lazio in 2018. His current contract will expire at the end of the season.
