Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta discussed several matters in a new interview. This includes the club’s new owners Oaktree Capital, the Romelu Lukaku soap opera from last summer and the new stadium plans.

The 67-year-old has been serving the Nerazzurri cause since 2018 when he made the switch from Juventus.

After acting as CEO for years, Oaktree also entrusted him with the president’s role following their takeover in May. He thus inherited Steven Zhang’s post.

Marotta thanked the new owners for placing their trust while promising to deliver additional success.

“I am grateful to Oaktree for their trust,” said the former Sampdoria and Juventus general director in his interview with Il Corriere della Sera via FcInterNews.

“I count on a strong corporate structure, on a team of very serious, as well as capable, professionals and on a public that is our added value

“Hence, I will put into practice all the experience I garnered from my past.”

Marotta then discussed the club’s latest achievements. He insists that winning is rather normal considering the club’s glorious past.

“Inter is Inter. So what we achieved under my management is nothing extraordinary because this was a team used to winning.

“It went through a period of darkness and suffering. Hence, when we won the first scudetto together, it felt like winning three titles.

“And in May when we won again, bringing home the second star, it was as if this new scudetto contained ten titles.”

The Varese native admits that the Champions League remains the ultimate dream.

“Now Inter has returned to being the Inter of old. But the objective is to aim higher. Our dream is to clinch the Champions League.

“Raising the bar is not an act of presumption, but of pride and awareness. We have to try, the important thing is to have no regrets.”

Marotta Weighs In On Romelu Lukaku & Inter Milan New Stadium Plans

The interviewer asked the Inter president about Lukaku’s infamous exit last summer. The striker turned his back on Inter and was pushing for a move to arch-rivals Juventus before signing for Roma.

Nevertheless, Marotta insists that the Chelsea striker left more positive memories than negative ones at Inter.

“The episode represented little compared to all the positive emotions and adrenaline that we experienced over the years.

“We all owe Lukaku thanks for what he has done at the club. He has always worked hard and has always done well.

“Let’s remember him for this: for the good things, not the bad ones.

“And then let’s not forget that he represented the strangest, most particular and positive operation for Inter in its history.

“We valorized him in an incredible way and this then gave important gains from an economic point of view to build the conquest of the second star.

“With him, we won the Scudetto and he remains part of the club’s history.”

Finally, Marotta admitted that the club is facing a battle against Italian bureaucracy when discussing new stadium plans.

The Inter president insisted that the club needs a modern stadium of their own. The Nerazzurri are aiming to build their own ground in the Rozzano region.

“We are lacking a home. Today we have San Siro that we share it with another team.

“But a ground of our own would strengthen that great sense of belonging. This is an important element for a football club.

“We are doing everything we can to make this dream come true, which is ours as well as the fans’

“We are fighting with the Italian bureaucracy that is dragging out the times. A citadel would be a beautiful thing. Unfortunately, it is not easy to achieve, but at least a stadium would be indispensable.

“For the Rozzano project, we are thinking of 70 thousand seats.”
