Inter Milan striker Marko Arnautovic has reportedly agreed to stay at the club as a fourth-choice attacker.

The Austrian signed for the club last summer, completing an initial loan move from Bologna, which later became a permanent transfer.

The 35-year-old served as a backup for Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram who cemented themselves as the ultimate starting duo.

The veteran had his bouts with injuries as well as some physical problems which took its toll on his performances.

This summer, Inter felt the need to bolster their attacking ranks. After parting ways with Alexis Sanchez, they secured Mehdi Taremi’s services on a free transfer from Porto.

The Iranian immediately proved his worth in pre-friendly tests, cementing his status as the main back-up option for Martinez and Thuram.

Hence, the club has given Arnautovic a choice. He could either accept to stay as a fourth-choice striker or find himself a new club.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInter1908, the two parties held a meeting on Friday to discuss the situation.

As the pink newspaper tells it, everyone was happy at the end of the summit, as the two sides agreed to extend their collaboration.

Arnautovic reportedly accepted his new reduced role at the club.

This isn’t an entirely surprising outcome, as the player had often reiterated his desire to stay at Appiano Gentile.

Moreover, the experienced attacker didn’t have too many enticing offers on the table.

There were some offers from Turkiye which he rejected, as well as timid approaches from other Serie A clubs.

Hence, Arnautovic will be looking to fulfill his contract with the Nerazzurri which will expire at the end of the season.

He recently suffered an injury in pre-season, but could return to group training as early as next week.
