A report in the Italian press tells how Inter Milan managed to convince Filip Stankovic to accept a move to Venezia.

As reported yesterday, the goalkeeper is now close to sealing a transfer to the newly promoted Serie A club.

The 22-year-old spent the previous campaign on loan at Sampdoria. Many believed he could end up extending his time at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.

Inter were hoping for this scenario, as they were offering Stankovic to Sampdoria as an exchange pawn for talented teenage defender Giovanni Leoni.

Nevertheless, the Blucerchiati are no longer interested in signing a new custodian. Andrea Pirlo has already decided to entrust the young Paolo Vismara with the starting gloves.

Therefore, Inter had to find another destination for Stankovic. Luckily for the Nerazzurri, Venezia almost immediately rose to the scene.

The two clubs were able to find a swift agreement over the Serbian who also gave the green light for the operation.

According to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, the Italian champions were able to convince Stankovic that he can have a genuine chance of earning a starting role with the Lagunari.

The Venetians have been relying on the experienced Jesse Joronen between the sticks. But Inter believe the younger Stankovic can usurp the Finnish goalkeeper at Eusebio Di Francesco’s court.

The Serbian is an Inter youth product who climbed his way up the club’s ranks.

Between 2021 and 2023, he developed his game in the Netherlands while on loan at FC Volendam.

Last term, he earned the plaudits for his impressive displays at Sampdoria. He also attracted interest from Ligue 1 side Nantes.

Stankovic will now have the chance to prove his worth in Serie A for the first time. However, he will have to overcome internal competition from Joronen.
