Simone Inzaghi will go with the Inter Milan starting eleven that won last season’s Serie A title in the first match of the new season against Genoa.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri coach will go with what works.

Inter begin their new Serie A season in one week’s time. They play Genoa away to kick off their title defense.

Naturally, the big priority for Inter is likely to be continuity from last season.

Last campaign the Nerazzurri did not just win the Serie A title. They did so in dominant fashion.

This summer, Inter have managed to avoid losing any of the key starters from last season.

There have been some departures, naturally. But not of any of the players who were regulars in the starting eleven.

On the other hand, there have been some notable arrivals.

Inter have not brought in nearly as many players as last summer. But they have made signings in the form of Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski, and Josep Martinez.

Taremi and Zielinski in particular will undoubtedly be pushing to start regularly through next season.

But both of the two big summer signings are currently out with injuries.

According to the Gazzetta, therefore, in goal, Yann Sommer will continue to start.

In defense, Yann Bisseck may hope to start on the right of the back three considering that he has been building form whereas Benjamin Pavard was a later return to training.

However, Pavard will still have a good chance of starting.

Meanwhile, Alessandro Bastoni and Francesco Acerbi will certainly be the other two starters in the Inter defense.

In midfield, last season’s starting trio of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Niclolo Barella will start.

And in attack it will be the strike partnership of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

On the left flank, Federico Dimarco is set to get the nod.

And then on the opposite side of the pitch, Inzaghi will have the same selection dilemma that was typically the biggest uncertainty last season – at right-wingback.

According to the Gazzetta, the coach will likely give Matteo Darmian the start against Genoa rather than Denzel Dumfries.
