Beppe Bergomi feels that Inter Milan are still the “team to beat” in Serie A although injuries could change the picture.

The legendary former Nerazzurri captain spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

This season, Inter will be defending the Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri did not just win the title last campaign. They did so in dominant fashion, finishing nearly twenty points clear of city rivals AC Milan in second.

But the likes of Milan as well as Juventus and Napoli among others have spent the summer making every effort to strengthen for the upcoming season.

Things are not likely to be as easy for Inter as they ended up being over the second half of last campaign.

But Inter have not given any signs that they will drop off much. If at all.

For the first summer in a few years, the Nerazzurri have not lost a single key player from their starting eleven.

And in fact, Inter have actually strengthened the depth of their squad, at least on paper.

The likes of Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski will certainly be pushing to start regularly.

Bergomi: “Injuries Could Factor But Inter Still Team To Beat In Serie A”

Former Inter captain Bergomi said that Inter “Are the team to beat.”

“But I think a key theme comes out in something Zielinski said to the Gazzetta,” he went on.

“He said: ‘I’ve never had such a tough preseason in my life.'”

“Last season Inter had the highest average age in the league,” Bergomi noted.

“And now there have already been a few too many injuries. They need to be careful.”

“That’s why I’ll say a lot of it is about motivation,” Bergomi said. “About having that desire to continue to prove themselves.”

“If you want to win all over again, you have to keep being hungry. You can’t think you’re already full.”
