Midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan feels that Inter Milan “still have a lot left to prove” ahead of the start of the new Serie A season.

The Armenian spoke to InterTV following the Nerazzurri’s friendly match against Chelsea, via FCInterNews. He stressed that last season’s success is “already behind” the team.

Inter are now less than a week away from the start of the new season.

The Nerazzurri have now played their final friendly match of the preseason period. They drew 1-1 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

It’s been a summer that has seen many of Inter’s players in action at either the Euros or the Copa America.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri have also made a few changes in the transfer market.

The arrivals of Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski, and Josep Martinez have been particularly notable.

And the team have also been working relentlessly in training since last month.

There are still a few days to go in training. And Inter will want to make the best of them as they prepare for their first league match of the new campaign against Genoa on Saturday.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan: “Inter Milan Still Have A Lot Left To Prove”

Last season Inter won the Serie A title. Moreover, they did so in dominant fashion.

Meanwhile, the season prior the Nerazzurri reached the Champions League final where they went toe-to-toe with Premier League juggernauts Manchester City.

Add to that five other pieces of domestic silverware in the last three seasons, and it would be easy to think that this Inter team have already peaked.

But that is not the way that midfielder Mkhitaryan sees it.

The 35-year-old said that “We’re very happy to start again.”

“We still have a lot left to prove,” he added.

“We’ve already put last season behind us. It was a good season, but our focus is already on the new one.”

“We’ll do our best to start with a win,” Mkhitaryan said of the season opener against Genoa.

Of the Inter fans at Stamford Bridge for today’s friendly, Mkhitaryan said that “The support of the fans is always fundamental.”

“It didn’t feel like an away match because of their support.”

“We always thank them,” Mkhitaryan said of the Inter faithful. “They’ve always been incredible.”

And as far as Inter’s physical condition for the start of the season, the former Manchester United and Arsenal midfielder said that “We’re hoping to get to 100%.”

“Even though we know that won’t be easy.”

“We know that have to do our best to reach the maximum and prove our quality, and do everything we know how to,” Mkhitaryan added.
