Inter Milan target Federico Chiesa could very well stay at Juventus this season and then leave on a free transfer next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the 26-year-old could stay at the Bianconeri for the duration of his contract even if he’s out of the project.

One thing that looks abundantly clear is that Juventus do not want Chiesa to be in their squad for the upcoming season.

The Italian international is not in the plans under new Bianconeri coach Thiago Motta.

Therefore, Juventus have been aiming to sell Chiesa this summer.

And then, the former Fiorentina winger’s contract situation is another wrinkle in the situation.

Chiesa’s deal with Juventus runs out at the end of next June.

Therefore, this summer would represent the last major opportunity for the Turin giants to cash in on the 26-year-old.

Otherwise, the only possibilities would be for Juventus to sell Chiesa in January for a slashed-price fee – or see him walk out the door for nothing next summer.

Inter Target Federico Chiesa Could Stay At Juventus & Leave On Free Transfer Next Summer

Juventus have made every effort to offload Chiesa this summer.

And there has been some reported interest in the Italian international’s signature from big clubs in Serie A and Napoli.

But so far no concrete offers for Chiesa have materialized.

This naturally puts Juventus in an awkward position.

The Bianconeri have continued to communicate to Chiesa that they plan to offload him this summer. He has been frozen out of the squad.

But if no offers come in that Juventus and Chiesa accept, then the 26-year-old will still be a Juventus player when all is said and done.

It would then become a question of whether Bianconeri Motta decides to reintegrate Chiesa into the project or not.

But one way or another a new contract looks exceedingly unlikely.

That would certainly open the door for Inter.

The Nerazzurri are no strangers to big free transfer signings. And they could patiently wait for Chiesa to be available on those terms, then make their move next summer.
