Lautaro Martinez could end up playing 62 matches in 2024 between his duties with Inter Milan and Argentina.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

It has not exactly been a summer of rest and relaxation for Inter captain Martinez.

The 26-year-old was in action with Argentina at the Copa America.

It was a memorable tournament for the Albiceleste, and for Martinez.

Argentine successfully defended their Copa crown. This made it three major tournament wins in a row, having also won the World Cup in Qatar.

And Martinez was Argentina’s hero this summer. He scored five goals at the Copa America, including the extra time winner in the final against Copa America.

That made Martinez the top scorer of the tournament. He had already finished the Serie A season as not just Inter’s top scorer but all of the Italian top flight’s.

Clearly, all of this is positive for Martinez.

But there is a downside. The Inter captain has just constantly been in action.

Even after going on vacation following the Copa, Martinez ended up making an early return to training.

This was so that the 26-year-old can do what he can to be at his best for Inter’s Serie A opener against Genoa, after Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic picked up injuries.

Lautaro Martinez Could Play 62 Matches For Inter & Argentina In 2024

There is no sense that Martinez could have a slow start to the season after his intense summer.

Inter cannot afford not to rely on their captain’s contributions.

Therefore, Martinez will not likely miss many matches over the course of the season. At least barring unforeseeable circumstances like injuries or suspensions.

Martinez could hit a whopping 62 matches for club and country by the end of the calendar year.

Therefore, managing the Argentine’s minutes and fitness will be crucial.
