Defender Alessandro Bastoni is feeling mild muscular fatigue, but is unlikely to miss Inter Milan’s Serie A opener against Genoa.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Yesterday, Inter played their final friendly match of the preseason period.

The Nerazzurri took on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

With the season starting in just a few days, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi looked to give the team he plans to use in the Serie A opener against Genoa a run-out, by and large.

However, there were a few notable absences.

Inter captain Lautaro Martinez and midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu did not even travel with the squad. They stayed back in Milan to work on their fitness.

And then defender Bastoni was also somewhat of a surprise absence from the starting eleven.

Bastoni was part of the Inter squad for the friendly against Chelsea.

However, the 25-year-old did not start the match, and did not come on as a substitute.

Naturally, this raised one or two worries regarding Bastoni’s condition. Inter coach Inzaghi made no shortage of substitutions, but did not use Bastoni during the match.

Slight Knock For Alessandro Bastoni – Unlikely To Miss Genoa Vs Inter Opener

According to the Gazzetta, the injury to Bastoni certainly is not serious.

Inter coach Inzaghi left the 26-year-old out of the lineup purely as a precation.

That does not mean, however, that there is zero concern for Bastoni.

Naturally, at this stage of preseason there would be reason to feel that a lack of physical condition would be an issue.

However, the problem is minor enough that the Gazzetta anticipate Bastoni should be able to shake it off in time for Inter’s Serie A opener.

The Nerazzurri take on Genoa in five days, and Bastoni should likely be able to be ready for that match.
