Lautaro Martinez is extremely grateful to have extended his contract with Inter Milan, and ready to fight for more trophies.

The Nerazzurri captain spoke to InterTV following his new deal, via FCInterNews.

Now it’s official. Martinez has committed his future to Inter until the end of June 2029.

The Argentine’s previous deal had run until the end of June 2026. He signed that extension in the autumn of 2021.

But Inter have rewarded Martinez with a new contract and a significant increase in wages.

This is a reflection of the 26-year-old’s importance to the club. Martinez has been Inter’s top scorer in each of the past three seasons, and has worn the captain’s armband since last summer.

Moreover, the new contract for Martinez sends a clear message to other clubs around Europe.

The Argentine is hardly going to be leaving Inter any time soon. He remains firmly established as a key player for the Nerazzurri, and now on a new five-year deal.

Lautaro Martinez: “New Inter Contract Means So Much”

Martinez said of his new contract that “This extension means a lot.”

“I’m very proud,” the Inter captain said. “And grateful to the new club directors, the new owners.”

“After six years being here, staying means a lot to me and my family,” Martinez said. “And for all the people around me.”

“I’m very happy,” Martinez said. “And I have a great desire to keep fighting for big trophies.”

Asked what he would tell himself from six years ago before he joined Inter, Martinez said “Do the same thing I did.”

“Give 100% in every match. Always try to help my teammates, on and off the pitch.”

“Always have a positive word to say,” Martinez explained his attitude. “Try to set an example.”

“Now I have to keep going in the same way, and allow the fans to keep reliving all the beautiful moments we’ve already experienced together in the last six years.”

Of the changes he’s undergone at Inter, Martined said “I used to be younger, and less mature.”

“But as the years pass you grow, in all respects. Both on and off the pitch.”

And of next season, Martinez said that “Let’s hope Lautaro keeps growing.”

“Surpassing myself as I have every season at Inter. Because that’s what I work for every day, to keep moving forward.”

“To keep being more as a player, more as a teammate, and as a captain,” Martinez said.

“I’ll try to give my best every day in training, improve, and give my best as I’ve done since my first match here.”
