Now it’s official – Inter Milan have extended the contract of their captain and striker Lautaro Martinez until the end of June 2029.

The club’s homepage officially announced the new 5-year deal for the 26-year-old Argentine international.

It is not hard to see why Inter have been key to secure the long-term future of Martinez. The Argentine has been the Nerazzurri’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons.

And this time around, with seventeen goals from 23 matches so far, he is certainly on course to make it three in a row.

Martinez also provides far more than just goals.

The 26-year-old is the player who sets the tone for Inter’s performances with his linkup play, pressing, and defensive workrate.

These attributes, combined with Martinez’s loyalty and leadership on and off the pitch have made him a real fixture of the team.

The Argentine became Inter’s captain in the summer. He inherited the armband from Samir Handanovic.

Inter Milan Extend Contract Of Lautaro Martinez Until End Of June 2029

Martinez is not without suitors if he were to leave Inter.

On the contrary, some of Europe’s elite have shown a keen interest in the Argentine.

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all targeted the Inter striker in the past couple transfer windows.

Barcelona and Manchester City have also chased Martinez during his time at the Nerazzurri.

But in spite of this persistent transfer interest, Martinez has always remained loyal to Inter.

And now that has taken the form of a new contract.

Martinez’s previous deal had run until the end of June 2026. The striker signed that contract in the fall of 2021.

But now the Argentine has put pen to paper on a new deal.

Martinez is now under contract with Inter a further two years, until the end of June 2029.

The 26-year-old will also, naturally, receive a significant pay raise.

The Inter captain will reportedly earn around €9 million net per season. That will make him the Nerazzurri’s highest earner.
