Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson is on the verge of a move to Fiorentina despite rumours of a last-ditch Inter Milan swoop.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio. He reports on his homepage that La Viola could look to seal the Icelandic international’s transfer tomorrow.

In the last week or so, Fiorentina have been working to try and sign Gudmundsson.

The 26-year-old former AZ Alkmaar forward is the player the Tuscans have earmarked as the successor to Nico Gonzalez, who Juventus have been working to sign.

However, the deal has not gotten over the line yet.

A big part of the reason for this has been Genoa’s desire to line up a replacement for Gudmundsson before they sell him.

This has even led to some reports that Inter could make a last-ditch effort to sign Gudmundsson.

The Nerazzurri’s interest in the Icelander is no great secret. They have been tracking him for months now.

And reports have suggested that Inter could try to make a deal for Gudmundsson happen by offering either Marko Arnautovic or Joaquin Correa as attacking reinforcements in a deal.

Fiorentina Close In On Albert Gudmundsson Despite Inter Rumours

According to Di Marzio, however, Fiorentina are pushing with more and more urgency to sign Gudmundsson.

La Viola want to get a deal for the 26-year-old done so that they can in turn complete the sale of Gonzalez to Juventus.

According to Di Marzio, Genoa are starting to get moving on signing replacements for Gudmundsson.

The Ligurian club are not only trying to make up for the prospective loss of Gudmundsson. They are also trying to replace Mateo Retegui following his sale to Atalanta.

He reports that the Grifone are targeting Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fabio Silva and Osijek’s Anton Matkovic.

Moreover, Di Marzio reports, Gudmundsson has made it very clear to Genoa that he wants the move away.

The Icelander met with the Grifone senior management today. He made his stance clear that he does not want any more delays in a transfer.

Therefore, Fiorentina feel that now is the moment for them to move decisively to sign Gudmundsson.

According to Di Marzio, La Viola could complete the deal as soon as tomorrow.
