Simone Inzaghi expects that Inter Milan will make a signing in defense before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Nerazzurri coach didn’t hide the need for a new defender to make up for the injury to Tajon Buchanan in an interview with Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.

Inter are now just a few days away from the start of the Serie A season.

The Nerazzurri take on Genoa on Saturday in their first match of the league campaign.

However, that does not mean that Inter’s summer transfer window will be over this weekend.

Even after their match at the Marassi, the Nerazzurri will still have a couple more weeks in which to bring in new players.

And reports have long suggested that Inter are planning to dip into the market.

Specifically, this follows the unfortunate broken leg suffered by wingback Tajon Buchanan. The Canadian picked up the injury in training while with Canada at the Copa America.

Considering that Buchanan is out for a few months at the start of the season, Inter will feel that the squad as it is does not have sufficient depth to cope.

But reportedly the Nerazzurri aren’t planning to sign a like-for-like replacement for Buchanan on the flank.

Rather, Carlos Augusto will play at wingback. But since the Brazilian frequently deputized for Alessandro Bastoni last season, Inter will have to sign a new player for that role.

And the club’s coach has confirmed as much.

Simone Inzaghi Confirms: “Inter Milan Need A Signing In Defense”

When asked about Inter’s plans for the transfer market, Inzaghi said that “The transfer window is open until the end of the month.”

“We know that we’re light in defense considering Buchanan’s injury,” the coach continued.

“I’ve been discussing it with the club. I’m fortunate to have a great board of directors behind me.”

“I’ve met with the new owners,” Inzaghi added. “They have big ambition, as well all do.”

Inzaghi said of the start of the season that “Clearly the anticipation is massive.”

“We’ve been working hard in training ever since July 13th,” the Inter coach added.

“The players have been filtering back, but I’m satisfied with the work we’ve done and with the guys.”

“I expect my team to be focused,” Inzaghi said. “We’re the champions of Italy. We know that in the last few seasons the team to have tried to defend the title have slipped up.”

“We’re all talking about it with the guys. We know that we have to have incredible focus on our goals.”

Inzaghi then noted that “We’ve kept together the team from last season as a whole.”

“But with three new additions who will be important, as we wanted,” Inzaghi said.

“There have been a few minor injuries. But Arnautovic and Taremi are already back in training, and Zielinski is almost ready.”

“De Vrij is still out. He’ll be on the sidelines a bit longer than the others.”

“But that’s all part of business as usual,” Inzaghi said.

And the Inter coach also gave his thoughts on the team’s three new signings this summer.

“Zielinski is a player with great technical ability,” he said. “We wanted to sign him, and he’ll certainly give us a big hand.”

“Taremi has experience at international level,” Inzaghi then said. “He’s scored a lot of goals with his national team and in Portugal.”

“And Martinez is a top goalkeeper who’s very eager to learn,” the coach added.
