Striker Marko Arnautovic prefers to stay at Inter Milan for this season rather than making the move to Genoa.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

In recent days, links have come up between Arnautovic and Genoa.

These have been part of a broader web of potential transfers.

At the heart of it is the fact that forward Albert Gudmundsson is pushing to leave Genoa. The Icelander wants a move to a bigger club.

Fiorentina are currently the club pushing the hardest for Gudmundsson’s signature.

However, Inter are also long-term admirers of the former AZ Alkmaar forward.

And the Nerazzurri could have an ace in the hole. They are ready to make a last-ditch bid for Gudmundsson involving striker Arnautovic.

This could be key because of the fact that Genoa have already sold striker Mateo Retegui. The Italian international joined Atalanta earlier this month.

The sale of Retegui has made Genoa particularly reluctant to sell another regular starter in attack from last season like Gudmundsson.

Marko Arnautovic Prefers Inter Stay Over Genoa Transfer

There would also be the decision of the player concerned, however.

Obviously, Arnautovic would have to agree to a move to Genoa in order for a deal involving Gudmundsson going the other way to come to pass.

And according to the Corriere, Arnautovic is not particularly keen on the idea.

The big advantage to a move to Genoa for Arnautovic would be that he would almost certainly receive considerably more playing time.

But the Austrian has been ready to accept staying at Inter as a backup option next season.

Arnautovic’s stance is that he would rather stay at a big club in the Champions League, even if it means accepting a less prominent role in the team.

Therefore, the 35-year-old is not currently inclined on the move to Liguria.
