Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi weighs in on the club’s transfer market dealings and applauds the signing of Piotr Zielinski.

The Nerazzurri will defend the Serie A title this term, beginning with the season opener against Genoa on Saturday.

The Piacenza native urges his players to give their best to remain ahead of the competition.

“We know the responsibility we will have this season. We are coming off a positive campaign which culminated in the second star,” said Inzaghi in his interview with DAZN via FcInterNews.

“Now we will have to increase commitment and hard work because many clubs are strengthening and will want to win.

“We saw how other teams had problems after winning the title, so we must avoid that.”

“We will have to be good at the details, in preparing the matches.”

The Inter manager admitted the club is looking to sign a new defender to make up for Tajon Buchanan’s absence (and Carlos Augusto returning to play as a wingback).

“The squad has remained more or less the same. We have signed three important players who need no introduction and who will help us in the rotation.

“Then we know that we will probably have to bring in a new defender given Buchanan’s absence which will last until December or January.”

Simone Inzaghi Discusses Inter Milan Transfer Market, Lautaro’s Extension & Piotr Zielinski

Inzaghi expressed his delight with the contract extension of club captain Lautaro Martinez.

“Lautaro is a great player, I am happy that he renewed his contract. Clearly, the captain’s armband has made him even more responsible.

“He will have to continue on the same path and offer us his important contributions, especially off the pitch.”

The 48-year-old also had words of praise for his new midfielder Piotr Zielinski.

“We have complementary players, who can play with one another. The three new ones are of international caliber. We know them all well and we are certain that they will help us a lot.

“Zielinski was an excellent coup. My midfield must have quality, and luckily, we have it. We already had so much quality, plus we added Zielinski and we all know what he can give us.”
