Inter Milan may reportedly launch talks for young Talleres defender Tomas Palacios in the next few days.

The Nerazzurri have been on the lookout for a new left-footed centre-back for several weeks.

Simone Inzaghi is seeking a player capable of covering for Alessandro Bastoni on the left side of the three-man defense when required.

While Carlos Augusto filled this role during the second half of last season, Tajon Buchanan’s injury will force the Brazilian back to the left wing.

The coach would have liked an experience profile like Ricardo Rodriguez of Mario Hermoso. However, the club’s owners Oaktree Capital prefer a young player whose value can rise over the years.

In the last few days, Palacios emerged as the favorite candidate for the role.

The 21-year-old is a youth product of Talleres who has been making waves in Argentina while on loan at Independiente Rivadavia.

According to Calciomercato, Inter could kickstart the negotiations to sign the youngster in the coming days.

The source adds that several Argentinian clubs have inquired about Palacios recently.

Boca Juniors had entered the fray, but club president Juan Roman Riquelme decided to abort the plan. The legendary Number 10 was reportedly irked by how the player favored a move to Velez Sarsfield.

As the source notes, this incident took place several months ago. But now, Palacios has gained further recognition, including interest from across the ocean.

So we shall see if Inter will be able to put the deal over the line.

The Italian champions could rely on their vice-president Javier Zanetti to lure his Argentine compatriot to Appiano Gentile.

The legendary Inter captain had also represented Talleres in his early playing days.

Palacios’ loan stint at Independiente will expire at the end of the year, while his contract with Talleres runs until December 2025.
