Inter Milan fell short in their attempts to sign Albert Gudmundsson who is currently on the verge of sealing a move Fiorentina.

The 27-year-old striker rose to prominence last season on the back of a stellar campaign with Genoa.

He cemented himself as the club’s ultimate star and led the Grifone towards a comfortable mid-table finish on their return to the top flight.

But as is often the case for breakout stars in mid-table sides, a host of suitors have emerged onto the scene.

At the start of the summer, many pinpointed Inter as the favorites to land Gudmundsson.

Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri haven’t managed to offload their deadwood in attack thus far. Therefore, they weren’t able to make room for the Genoa star in due time.

On the other hand, Fiorentina launched an onslaught for the Iceland international.

The Viola initially encountered some hurdles, but have now managed to unblock the operation, explains Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews,

This is mainly thanks to Andrea Pinamonti’s expected arrival at Genoa which will trigger a domino effect. The former Inter Milan youngster will complete a move from Sassuolo to replace the departing Gudmundsson.

Fiorentina will splash 8 million euros on loan fees and have an option to buy the player for another 17M. Moreover, the operation includes 3.5 million as bonuses, raising the sum to 28.5 million euros.

Gudmundsson’s arrival in Florence could also prompt Nico Gonzalez’s departure. The 26-year-old Argentine has recently emerged as a primary transfer candidate for Juventus.

For their part, Inter can only watch from afar. If the club is still seeking attacking reinforcement, they will now have to look elsewhere.

However, the main issue for the Nerazzurri remains finding accommodation for the likes of Joaquin Correa and Martin Satriano.
