Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta is keeping it coy regarding transfer links with young Tallerese-owned defender Tomas Palacios.

The Nerazzurri executive spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, ahead of today’s Serie A opener against Genoa. He said he “won’t name names” but that the club want a profile similar to Yann Bisseck.

In the last few days, Inter have been strongly linked with 21-year-old defender Palacios.

The Argentine is currently at Independiente Rivadivia on loan from Talleres. Reports suggest that Inter want to cut the loan short and sign Palacios.

A move for Palacios would be the culmination of Inter’s search for a defender this summer.

That is a search that has gone on for more than a month at this point.

The Nerazzurri have never hidden the fact that they’re trying to sign a defender. This would be to back up Alessandro Bastoni, allowing Carlos Augusto to play at wingback.

There have been a number of rumoured transfer targets. But so far Inter have not made a signing in defense.

And reports have indicated that Nerazzurri owners Oaktree Capital have made it a priority to sign a young player with room to grow and future resale value rather than a stopgap solution.

Marotta Coy On Inter Links With Tomas Palacios: “Not Naming Names, We Want A Profile Like Bisseck”

Regarding Inter’s search for a defender, Marotta said “Let’s say we’re looking for a profile similar to Bisseck.”

“Both in terms of quality, age, and value,” the Inter President said.

As far as whether it is in fact Palacios who is Inter’s target in that search Marotta said, “No, no, let’s not name any names.”

“Then that would look bad if we didn’t end up signing him.”

“We’ve outlined the kind of profile we want,” Marotta said.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri President dismissed the months of transfer speculation linking his club to forward Albert Gudmundsson, who joined Fiorentina from Genoa this week.

“Honestly, that was all hype created by the media,” Marotta said.

“We did look into the possibility of signing him. But not that far, as we already have an attack that we feel gives us what we need both in terms of numbers and quality.”

Marotta said that Inter’s interest in Gudmundsson “Never went very far.”
