Midfielder Piotr Zielinski will return to fitness for Inter Milan’s second match of the Serie A season at home to Lecce.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Zielinski will not be part of Inter’s squad for this evening’s Serie A opener.

The Nerazzurri are in Liguria, where they will face off against Genoa for the first match of their title defense.

Zielinski joined Inter on a free transfer over the summer. He made the switch after his contract with Napoli expired at the end of June.

And Zielinski has been part of Inter’s preseason training camp nearly since the start.

The Polish international was a relatively early returnee. This was due to his national side exiting the Euros at the group stage.

And there were some very positive signs from Zielinski in Inter’s first couple friendly matches.

The 30-year-old looked to be fitting in well at his new team.

However, Zielinski then sustained a thigh strain. He has spent the past couple weeks recovering from that injury.

There had been some hope that Zielinski could even return in time for this evening’s Serie A opener.

The Pole has already made a return to training.

The recovery process was a fairly swift one for Zielinski.

However, the former Napoli midfielder has yet to really regain match sharpness. Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided against risking him this evening against Genoa.

But Zielinski is for all intents and purposes fit now. He has recovered from the thigh strain.

Therefore, there is no doubt that Zielinski will be able to be part of the squad for next weekend’s home opener against Lecce.

The 30-year-old could make his competitive debut for the Nerazzurri at the San Siro.
