Striker Mehdi Taremi was decisive in his second half appearance for Inter Milan in their Serie A opener against Genoa yesterday.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, hail the Iranian for his impact off the bench in the 2-2 draw.

It was not quite a match-winning cameo for Taremi at the Marassi yesterday,

The Iranian international was hardly at fault for that though. Inter failed to take three points due to a stoppage time penalty to Genoa which cancelled out their second goal.

But as far as Taremi goes, the 32-year-old did exactly what he was sent on to do.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to put Taremi on to give the team another attacking option in the second half while Inter were chasing a second goal.

The former Porto striker was getting his competitive debut for the Nerazzurri in some high pressure circumstances.

Mehdi Taremi Hailed For Decisive Impact For Inter Vs Genoa

Right away, Taremi was able to get himself involved in play.

The 32-year-old showed real hunger to make himself an option in the final third for teammates.

And Taremi’s physicality instantly gave the Genoa defenders something to think about.

Moreover, the Iranian’s touch and vision allowed him to form an effective, and fluid, attacking trio with fellow strikers Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

Taremi’s contribution to Inter’s second goal summed up his impact.

The Iranian international received a pass from midfielder Nicolo Barella. He had the awareness to flick the ball and take some of the pace off of it. It was smoothly into the path of Davide Frattesi.

Then Frattesi assisted Thuram who found the back of the net.

Taremi’s entry into the pitch went exactly according to plan in his first ever Serie A match.

The 32-year-old gave Inter’s attack more drive and fluidity.
