Italian journalist Reiccardo Trevisani believes that Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez should not win the Ballon D’Or this year.

Trevisani gave his thoughts on Martinez’s candidacy for club football’s top individual honour speaking on SportMediaset, via FCInter1908. He also named Inter as Serie A title favourites.

In recent weeks, the idea that Martinez could win the Ballon d’Or this year has emerged.

It has certainly been a positive year for the 26-year-old from a trophy perspective.

Martinez won both the Serie A title with Inter and the Copa America with Argentina. He also won the Supercoppa Italiana.

Moreover, Martinez played a pivotal role in both of those triumphs, unlike with Argentina’s previous World Cup triumph.

The Nerazzurri captain was the top scorer in Serie A last season, powering his team to the title.

And it was the same story in the Copa America over the summer. Martinez scored more than any other player at the tournament, including the extra time winner in the final against Colombia.

Trevisani Argues: “Lautaro Martinez Not Worthy Of Ballon D’Or”

It is perhaps inevitable then that Martinez’s name has come up in the mix of possible winners of the Ballon d’Or.

The field for that honour has arguably become more competitive than ever now that the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are no longer in contention.

The likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe are among the players to have emerged as favourites.

And so has Inter captain Martinez.

However, Italian journalist Trevisani is not convinced.

Of the prospect of Martinez winning the Ballon D’Or this year, he argued that “He’s not worthy of it.”

“There are at least three other players ahead of him,” Trevisani said of Martinez’s candidacy for the award.

Meanwhile, Trevisani also gave his prediction for the top end of the Serie A table this season.

“Napoli in fourth place,” he said. “Then Milan in third, Juventus second, and Inter in first.”
